MV Juno (Iùno in Scottish Gaelic) arriving at Gourock on the Dunoon service
What about this image of Caledonian MacBrayne ferry MV Juno? The subject is well framed, the scenery in the background is very attractive and it's quite high quality. In addition, it doesn't have any obstructions in the way of the vessel, and it's quite clear that it's moving by the bow wave. Bob talk 10:50, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the suggestion! I set MV Juno up as the April 2nd selected picture. If you want to tweak it, please feel free to do so. Cheers. Haus42 12:48, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Good luck for your project

Hello,

We have a similar portal in french Portail:Maritime with a project Projet:Maritime and a Bistro du port for discussion about the portal and the project. You have the same in Brezhoneg, Deutsch, Italiano, and Polski.

Good luck. CaptainHaddock 09:39, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] General Nautical Parent Project?

I notice there is no broad parent project. There seem to be areas that are falling through the cracks, like say, Sailing which is really just outside several projects, doesn't fall under Ships except for a limited portion of the historical aspects and the tall ships still afloat, "small craft" in general which are on the margins of Maritime Trades as so many are now purely recreational (at least in the eyes of those who don't know - yeah I'm not biased), Historical Novels like the Aubrey-Maturin series series and the Hornblower Series which are, I'm sure, very important to the Novels Project or their authors which I'm sure are just as important to the Biographies Project. Most of these areas have little coverage or very few editors and need information and badly need sources. A few, like Sailing, appear to have gotten out of control and could probably stand a few new editors to at least comment on how things might be brought back into focus as an Encyclopedia. Any interest in a Nautical Project, as a general parent project but with a primary intent of covering all those areas that the current active projects don't? Certainly not intended to step on the toes of those who are working hard on talking about military vessels, merchant shipping topics, or other things that are clearly within existing projects.--Doug.(talk contribs) 13:41, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

Could also be Water Transport Project.--Doug.(talk contribs) 02:44, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
I'd encourage you to give it a shot if working on it interests you. When I first started contributing on maritime subjects I made a conscious decision to focus more on depth than breadth. That said, the structure of watery subjects is quite bad, and I'm sure there are big gains to be gotten from improving it. Cheers. HausTalk 18:19, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
Y Done - I've proposed this project at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Council/Proposals#Nautical_Project, comments desired, at that site please.--Doug.(talk contribs) 21:49, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Featured Article

I hate to be picky but what does the Featured ARticle for today have to do with the Nautical Portal? 65.24.55.197 04:02, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Today is George Hennard's birthday. George Hennard no longer points to a biography of Hennard, but rather to a description of the Luby's Massacre. That's the why. If anyone wants to a) point today's redirect to another page, or even better, b) get consensus on fixing the Hennard article, I think that'd be a wonderful thing. Cheers.
