[edit] Early Life
With her father's job, McLeod lived in a few locations. At age 2, she lived in Maryland for a year or so. Then moved back to Portland. Her parents had lived in Cairo, Egypt long before she was born and came back to the United States to visit family. Around age 4, McLeod lived in Cairo for her kindergarten and first grade years of school. After her parents were divorced, McLeod moved back to Portland with her brother, three years her senior, and her mother to live with her grandmother. McLeod's mother was remarried in 2001, the reason her family moved to Scarborough, Maine.
[edit] Teenage Years
Stephanie McLeod went to Scarborough High School where she relied heavily on the friendship of her now musical partner, Jeremy Aidan. During their Junior year of high school, McLeod and Aidan formed a musical band, The Old Gregs, that somehow managed to find time to practice between chorus rehearsals, dramatic arts rehearsals, piano lessons, and voice lessons. It is a well-known fact that McLeod hardly graduated with her class because of her Sophomore, Junior and Senior year English teacher. Though, she did graduate and received her diploma in June of 2005, all the while continuing her band with Aidan through college.
[edit] The Brief Stint in College
Both McLeod and Aidan went to the University of New Hampshire (UNH) where they majored in Musical Performance. During their Sophomore years at UNH, Aidan and McLeod added one more member to their band. Riley McDonnell, from Burlington, Vermont, joined the band as the drummer and sharing in the role of vocalist with McLeod and Aidan. He majored in theater and was excited to bring a new depth to the sound of the band. After doing a few local gigs, The Old Gregs became very popular on campus. They performed regularly on the college radio stations and caught the eye of a spokesperson for Real Real World Records (RRW Records). Four weeks later the band was signed. To record with RRW Records the band dropped out of school and moved out to Las Vegas, Nevada, where they live today.
[edit] Band's Claim to Fame
The Old Gregs may not be a big name, but their work has pushed them out of the same beaten path that is heard today on radio stations. Instead of the upbeat pop-like sound that most artists go for, The Old Gregs went for a techno-funk-retrojazz feel. It is completely new to most Americans. From an interview with McLeod: "(For me) it's like we ran all the way to Japan and Scotland and blended all of their musical history together and brought it back for the musically deprived America."
