[edit] Background
Centrail aim to operate three return trips per day between the north-west of England and the capital city, London. Initially one return trip from Leicester and two from Liverpool are being offered.
Following the model of the Hull Trains and Grand Central, the services are run on a fully commerical unsubsidised basis using the "open access" process to gain access to the rail network. It is unique to the majority of other services in the UK, as they are instead operated through Department for Transport-run franchises, including most of the principal National Rail train operators.
The rail travelled covers a distance of over 213 miles with partial bits being non-stop (mostly between Colchester and London Waterloo railway station. The service is operated using rebuilt and refurbished British Rail Class 222 high speed trains rolling-stock capable of 125 mph (200 km/h).
