I grew up in the States, near and in Kansas City, MO, but currently live near Tongliao, Inner Mongolia. My Mandarin is patchy at best. The first few days/weeks I spend anywhere new, no one can understand anything I say, except it Kunshan. I spent 10 minutes there and was asked why I spoke such great 昆山话. Go figure.
