[edit] Outsider's Guide
I believe that the Outsider's Guide is such an important resource to NLL newbies that it should have its own article at Wikipedia.
[edit] Logos in team section
I think the logos should be removed from the team section. It makes it look kind of weird and makes that section too long. Anyone oppose? --Yarnalgo 23:26, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
- I just added them this past week, but I'm OK with it if you don't like them. It does make the section rather long. --MrBoo (talk, contribs) 00:33, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, then I'm going to remove them. --Yarnalgo 23:40, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Future Expansion
A couple of times now, I've had to remove statements about the league's desire to expand - people list specific cities that the league "wants" to expand to. If you're going to add those kind of statements, they must include a reference - some news article somewhere that quotes the commissioner or someone in an authority position. --MrBoo (talk, contribs) 00:01, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Reorganization
Would it make sense to reorganize the article a bit? Right now, it doesn't seem to have very good flow. My initial thoughts are to have the Game section first, followed by a much expanded history section, which would encompass the teams currently in the league, franchise movements, championship results, commissioners, league offices, etc. Then you could have the expansion and media sections.
I think that type of history section is currently too table driven, and maybe changing it to paragraphs for a couple of the sections would be appropriate. Mountainhawk 00:56, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
- I added the Game section the other day, and I thought at the time that there were too many tables in the article. An expanded history section could include the team movements and commissioners (I'm not sure having the league head office location is necessary at all), so those tables could be removed. I would keep a table of the current teams and locations, and probably one summarizing the team movement. I like having a table of Championship game results -- perhaps that could be moved to its own page, List of National Lacrosse League Champions or something? Should there also be a List of Major Indoor Lacrosse League Champions as well, or just include them all in one page? I'd vote for the latter.
- The National Hockey League article has been designated as a good article; perhaps we can use it as a guide. Maybe Good Article status should be our goal for this article too? --MrBoo (talk, contribs) 02:53, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

- OK, I took a shot at it. Feel free to revert if you don't like the paragraph format, and prefer the tables. I tagged it as unreferenced. Most of it can be found under the lax history section of the NLL website, or on the OG, but I don't have time to cite everything right now. I also wasn't sure if I should cite the each of the facts separately, or just as a section. If we like the format, I can go in and add more information, such as the champion for each year, and interesting facts and records that were set throughout the way. - Looks great — nice job! I just went through and added a bunch of links (seasons, teams, cities, Angela, etc.). If I get time in the near future, I'll add references as well — more than likely, most will be to the Outsider's Guide to the NLL, as that's about the only place you'll be able to find information (with any kind of detail) on the MILL or Eagle Pro leagues.
- I also added a {{POV-statement}} tag on one sentence: "The fallout from over-expansion continued as well,...". This part of the sentence is an opinion, which doesn't represent a neutral point of view. --MrBoo (talk, contribs) 04:51, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

- I changed the fallout line to "Contraction from the 2002 high of 13 teams continued", as that seems less POV driven. Just trying to get across that it wasn't a good time for the NLL, with teams folding/moving faster than they were coming in. Mountainhawk 19:27, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Franchise history
While it is accurate that Montreal's rights were sold to the Minnesota group and Ottawa's rights to Edmonton, I don't think it's accurate to claim they are the same franchise. For example, if you look in the NLL media guide, the Mammoth were founded in 1986 (tracing the history back to the Baltimore Thunder), but the Swarm were founded in 2005. This could be handled by showing the Swarm and Rush as separate franchises, but with a footnote applying to them and the franchise whose rights they took. Mountainhawk 00:56, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
- Hmmm... there currently is no distinction between a team moving (i.e. Albany to San Jose) and a franchise being suspended and then purchased and moved (i.e. Ottawa to Edmonton), but there probably should be. Most of the San Jose players in their first year were also with the team in Albany; that's not true with Edmonton/Ottawa. I'd be OK with this change. --MrBoo (talk, contribs) 02:53, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Player Origin
I was going through the teams' rosters on the NLL site, but did not see anyone from Australia. Nor do any of the rosters on the WIkipedia pages show any Australians. The last one I knew of was Dennis Julef of the Rochester Knighthawks, who was released two seasons ago. Can we be more specific of the player, or could this be updated? --Paploo 06:57, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
- Found the player in question (Wes Green of the San Jose Stealth), and corrected the roster accordingly. --Paploo 07:20, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

- Is there a reason why the Wings and Titans are excluded in this section? Mountainhawk 16:01, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

- To appeal to Canadian patriotism. Don't know why someone would awkwardly analyze some thing like this. Even if you add the Wings and Titans (the teams with the heaviest # of US players) the percentage would still be over 80%. Mitico 17:26, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

This Seems kinda simplistic, but there are quite a few Native players in the league and they are neither American nor Canadian (they play for the Iroquois Team in the world games) I think we need to break that down. Seanm9 19:26, 25 March 2007 (UTC)Seanm9
- I updated the stats to include Iroquois players. Here are the breakdowns I calculated:
Team | Cdn | USA | Iroquois | Other |
---|---|---|---|---|
Arizona | 22 | 1 | ||
Buffalo | 15 | 2 | 7 | |
Calgary | 22 | |||
Chicago | 15 | 4 | 2 | |
Colorado | 14 | 8 | ||
Edmonton | 23 | |||
Minnesota | 21 | 1 | ||
New York | 2 | 19 | ||
Philadelphia | 10 | 12 | 1 | |
Portland | 15 | 7 | ||
Rochester | 15 | 7 | 1 | |
San Jose | 17 | 5 | 1 | |
Toronto | 23 | |||
Totals | 214 | 65 | 12 | 1 |
Is Brendan Mundorf considered American or Australian in this count, since he is listed as dual-nationality? --Paploo 00:45, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- The one Australian listed was Wes Green. Mundorf was counted as American. --MrBoo (talk, contribs) 01:49, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
Regarding User:Paploo question on ip User talk:65.94.59.190, concerning "Who is the Slovakian lacrosse player?" I think the answer must be Thomas Hajek. Born in Slovakia & his family moved to Canada when he was a child. [1] How should it be listed? I am not sure. Mitico (talk) 20:14, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
Per [2] "There are currently 22 Native American players in the National Lacrosse League . . . " I'll word to reconcile. -- Mitico (talk) 14:14, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] All Star Game section?
Do we need the 2008 as a separate section. How about we just mention that the league has a midseason ASG in the current structure section, and link to the NLL ASG page? Mountainhawk 23:38, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
- Done. Mitico 13:05, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Refs in History section
I tried to start adding refs to the history section, but found that pretty much every reference would be to the history page at the NLL web site. Does anyone know of a good way of saying something like "this entire section is referenced from here", rather than having 15 different footnotes to the same source? --MrBoo (talk, contribs) 12:27, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
