== " First Known Settler " ==
I would amend this article to state the Batts was the first known (or better yet, first recorded) settler in NC... Engr105th 22:58, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Took the liberty of making this change, after there were no responses to my post above. Engr105th 05:29, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] More info found

I found a North Carolina gov't sponsored website that states a little known fact that at the time of Batt's settlement in what is now Pasqoutank County, this area was in fact part of Norfolk County, Va. And Batt's deed is kept in Va..
The first NC grant owner was George Durant, another little known figure. There is a community of the name Durant's Neck at the pennisula of two minor rivers in that area.
This may be significant to anyone researching early settlements. I'll add a paragraph if there are no objections. The link is http://www.historicalbemarletour.org/durant.html
