I changed He survived the war, becoming the longest surviving U.S. war veteran when he died in 1992 at age 106. Mostly, I just wondered about the phrasing: he became the longest surviving one when he died? Very few people are the surviving anything after they die. He became the longest surviving veteran whenever the guy before him died. FZ 15:54, 15 Jul 2004 (UTC) (only slightly tongue-in-cheek)
