NatureWorks LLC
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
NatureWorks LLC is a stand-alone company, wholly owned by Cargill that produces a family of polymers derived entirely from annually renewable resources designed to compete with petroleum-based packaging materials and fibers. The commercial quality polymer resin is made from the carbon found in simple plant sugars to create a proprietary polylactide polymer (PLA) which is marketed under the brand names NatureWorks and Ingeo.[1]
In 2001, NatureWorks LLC opened its PLA manufacturing facility in Blair, Nebraska, USA. This is the first and largest PLA facility in the world and supplies NatureWorks polymer to markets across the globe. NatureWorks LLC offices are located in Minneapolis, the Netherlands and Japan.
