[edit] Fauna
[edit] Scottish mammals
Cetaceans indigenous to Scotland include pilot whales, bottlenose dolphins and the porpoise.
The family Mustelidae is represented by badger, mink, stoats and ermine as well as the common weasel. Other mammals include seals, foxes and squirrels, with red squirrels more abundant than the grey squirrel which has overtaken much of the United Kingdom, especially in the south.
[edit] Scottish birdlife
Birds of prey found in Scotland include the golden eagle, the red kite, as well as the smaller peregrine falcon and common kestrel.
Wild game bird species include capercaillie, red grouse, ptarmigan, quail, partridge and the common pheasant.
[edit] Scottish fish
Scotland's temperate waters are home to a variety of fish species, notably salmon, trout, skate, and rays.
Basking sharks also frequent Scottish waters. Many small sharks, including dogfish, and mid-size sharks such as the porbeagle and the blue shark can be found in Scottish waters.
[edit] Scottish Wildlife Trust
The Scottish Wildlife Trust (SWT) is a leading voluntary conservation organisation, working to protect Scotland's natural environment and the 90,000 species of animal indigenous to the country.
[edit] Where to see Scottish Wildlife
It is possible to view whales, dolphins, porpoise, and basking sharks in their natural environment on boat tours of the Hebridean waters. Other good places to visit if you wish to see Scottish wildlife include:
