National Youth Service (Zimbabwe)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Zimbabwe's National Youth Service, commonly known as Green Bombers or youth brigades, is a youth militia trained by the government. They act as enforcers for the policies of the ZANU-PF party. The service is trained at camps named after Border Gezi, who was a ZANU (PF) member of the House of Assembly of Zimbabwe for Bindura until his death in April 2001.
The militia has been specifically identified by the United States Department of State as a group of undisciplined child soldiers used by the ZANU-PF government to suppress political dissent. They are alleged to be guilty of perpetrating many of the worst acts of politically-coercive violence in the recent conflict, often while under the influence of narcotics.
