The National Tidy Town Awards generally refer to the Australian Tidy Town Awards or the National Tidy Town Awards of Ireland.

[edit] Irish Tidy Towns Awards

The Irish National Tidy Towns Competition is an annual competition organized by the Irish Government's Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government. They were started in 1958.

The competition is organised on a national basis, and entrants must complete modules including:

Overall Developmental Approach (5 Year Plan), The Built Environment, Landscaping, Wildlife & Natural Amenities, Litter Control, Tidiness, Waste Minimisation, Residential Areas, and finally Roads, Streets & Back Areas. The Competition is judged during the summer months (May / August) by an independent Adjudicator, who will issue each town with a written report which will compliment positive development and actions and provide positive suggestions on how the Community can improve their general surroundings.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Tidy Towns competition is sponsored by Municipalities Newfoundland & Labrador and was begun in 1997. In this competition, a list of around 5 to 10 towns that meet certain criterion are published each year.
