National School are an alternative pop duo based in Oxford, England, featuring Joe Tucker (keyboard and vocals) and Ruth Smith (drums and vocals).

The band began as a solo project of Tucker's, under the name Vegetables in 2003. Tucker had previously been a member of a number of bands, including Honey Shop Screamers and Victor FME. Smith joined as a drummer in 2005, and the name was changed in early 2006.

National School have toured the UK several times, and played with bands such as Mates of State, Hot Club de Paris and Make Believe.

Three albums have been released to date all under the name Vegetables.

  • Riverside Erotica (2004)
  • Trompettes De La Mort (2005)
  • Live at Munkyfest (2005) - a live album recorded at the Munkyfest festival in Cheshire.

These three albums were distrubted jointly by the band and Sheffield DIY label Quiet Records.

Several non-album tracks have been released on limited edition CD-R compilations for the Munkyfest including The Butcher's Daughter and Cricket Exam.

An EP of new material, 'Ladies' Mile' was released in July 2007.
