National Police Academy of Nepal (NPA) is an academic wing of Nepal Police. It is solely responsible for conducting basic and advanced programs of the police officers in Nepal.

[edit] Historical Development

National Police Academy (NPA) formerly known as Central Police Training Centre (CPTC) established on the onset with the police regulation of 1993. Central Police Training Centre (CPTC) was laid its foundation on 1956 and has its distinction as only an institute to train police force.

In its inception CPTC had remained engaged in training only the constable level within limited resources and training facilities. Now, changing trend of policing as per the changed political context has demanded well versed and qualified police officers to meet the public expectations. As all of us agree that Democratic Policing pattern is the tested and the best policing module, which demands equally competent, honorable and accountable police officers for its delivery. NPA's prime responsibility apparently lies in developing professional competency of the senior police officers through conducting foundation as well as advance training courses.

i. NPA School of Music
ii. Detective Training School
iii.Dog Training School

[edit] NPA School of Music

NPA School of Music was established in 1952 AD. after merging of ' Rachhya Dal' into the Police in 1950, some of the police personnel with a more or less know how of music were unified and trained. Central Police band especially gets involoved in national as well as different police function with its musical performances. In order to formulate the service oriented police band, the public was facilitated the band service since 1964. Thus police band has been serving the public as well as other institutions in celebrating social traditional performances.

[edit] Detective Training School

Before the establishment of this school, the investigation training wing of NPA was responsible for conducting all the courses related to crime investigation.

In view of the requirement of huge number of skilled manpower, job specialization concept in investigation and in accordance with the recommendation made by the "Commission on Police Reformation and Recommendation, 1995 A.D., HMG decided to establish a detective Training School (DTS) by developing Detective Training (DT) wing within the available resources of National Police Academy in April 21st 1996 A.D.

Now, DTS is one of the training institution to conduct crime Investigation training in Nepal.

[edit] Dog Training School

In crime investigation, the role of detective dogs play crucial role. They have been in use for a long time in many countries in the world. Likewise in Nepal for the first in 1969 AD four Nepal Police Officers were sent to Malaysia for the Dog Training Course. In 1975 Nepal Police established a dog unit in Police Head Quarter, Naxal. In order to cope with the challenges of increased crime rate and pattern, the crucial role of dog in crime investigation was felt. As a result the dog unit has been upgraded to Central Police Dog Training School in Kathmandu in 1990. Since then Central Police Dog Training School has been successfully working in the field of crime investigation and security.
