The National League of Cities is the oldest and largest organization in the United States devoted to strengthening and promoting cities as centers of opportunity, leadership and governance. The National League of Cities is a resource and advocate for 19,000 cities, towns, and villages, representing more than 218 million Americans.
Working in partnership with the 49 state municipal leagues, the National League of Cities serves as a resource to and an advocate for the more than 19,000 cities, villages, and towns it represents. More than 1,600 cities and towns of all sizes pay dues to NLC and actively participate as leaders and voting members in the organization.
NLC members also include more than 70 Associate Members - non-profit and for-profit organizations with a need to know what's going on in communities across the nation. NLC also offers a Corporate Partners Program that allows organizations to support the NLC in strengthening local government, encouraging economic competitiveness, and promoting corporate civic engagement.

Within the National League of Cities, the Youth, Education and Families Institute (YEF) helps municipal leaders take action on behalf of the children, youth, and families in their communities. The YEF Institute offers a multitude of resources in five core program areas:

Each year in late fall or early winter, NLC hosts the Congress of Cities & Exposition, a five-day conference that draws thousands of local elected officials from across the country to its trademark events, including workshops on current pressing issues, exciting general session speakers, networking opportunities, leadership training seminars, and a strong connection to the host city.
NLC's other signature yearly conference is the Congressional City Conference, held each March in Washington, DC. Thousands of city leaders converge on the nation's capital to discuss NLC legislative priorities with Members of Congress and the Administration and hear their views. Municipal officials share promising practices, discuss policy and participate in leadership training opportunities.

[edit] Leadership Training Institute
The Leadership Training Institute (LTI) is NLC’s primary learning and resource center for leadership development and training for our nation’s local municipal leaders. Programs provided by the Leadership Training Institute focus on strengthening leadership skills, along with exploring, sharing and recognizing innovative thinking and initiatives in community leadership. LTI promotes excellence in municipal leadership by offering high quality education and training programs. Since its inception in 1992, nearly 3,000 mayors, council members and local leaders participate annually in more than 30 different LTI leadership seminars and programs. LTI is lead by the Leadership Training Council, made up of local elected officials and appointed annually by the NLC President, to provide guidance and direction LTI and serve as a vehicle for NLC leadership positions. [edit] Nation's Cities Weekly
Nation’s Cities Weekly is the official publication of the National League of Cities. It is published weekly, except for the Monday after Thanksgiving and the Monday after Christmas, and has almost 30,000 subscribers. The paper features information on Congressional activities and how they relate to cities, community profiles, highlights of NLC research, and overviews of NLC-sponsored conferences and workshops. In July 2007, NLC launched NLC TV, an innovative Internet-based TV web channel about and for cities. NLC TV features monthly newscasts that showcase the latest news about cities and the views of city officials on the pressing issues of the day. The channel also features web casts of events and seminars relevant to city leaders and their information needs.
