National Institute of Building Sciences
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) is a non-profit, private organization dedicated to bringing together government, professionals, the building products industry, construction labor, and the end consumer to identify and resolve current and potential problems that disrupt the ability to design and build safe and economical private, public, and institutional structures throughout the United States. Initiated by the U.S. Congress, NIBS provides a resource of authoritative advice for both the private and public sector of the economy regarding the use of building science and technology, to bolster and further the quality, safety, and adaptability of buildings from conception to construction. NIBS receives its funding from federal and state contracts and grants, and private funds in the form of membership dues and sales of its publications. This blend of funding resources is intended to prevent any one sector, discipline, or industry from holding an undue influence over the information provided by the Institute.
