National Health and Medical Research Council

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) is Australia's peak funding body for medical research, with a budget of nearly A$1bn a year[citation needed]. The Council was established to develop and maintain health standards and is responsible for implementing the National Health and Medical Research Council Act 1992.

This body is a material agency and is incorporated under the Financial Management and Accountability Act 1997. It was a part of the Department of Health and Ageing portfolio until mid 2007. It is now a self governing statutory authority.
