National Enrichment Facility

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

National Enrichment Facility (NEF) is a plant under construction for the refinement of fuel for nuclear power plants by gas centrifuge[1]. The NEF is operated by Louisiana Energy Services (LES) which is in turn owned by the Urenco Group. The NEF is located 5 miles east of Eunice, NM.

NEF employs a new type of license, the 10 CFR Part 2. It is a combination license granted by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) allowing the plant to proceed directly from construction to operation. First of it's kind, this means NEF will be closely watched by many parties in the nuclear community.

All organizations at the National Enrichment Facility are currently staffing and training. On 04/20/2007, the facility hired its 100th full time employee.
