The NCEES is responsible for the administration of the exams that engineers must pass in order to get their Professional Engineer certification. These include:

In addition, the NCEES assists with record keeping for those engineers who already have this certification. A Professional Engineer can request that NCEES submit his or her record to another state in order to be recognized as a Professional Engineer within that state. This process aids engineers by keep their respective records in one place to transmit from state to state as they work on different jobs in different states.

[edit] Land Surveying

NCEES also prepares examinations for Land Surveyor licensing in the United States. These exams consist of:

  • The Fundamentals of Land Surveying exam, also known as FLS or SIT (Surveyor-In-Training) exam
  • The Principles and Practice of Land Surveying exam - which is also typically accompanied by a jurisdiction-specific exam.

[edit] Center for Professional Engineering Education Services

In September of 2006, NCEES opened the Center for Professional Engineering Education Services to aid U.S. engineering and surveying boards with accreditation of credentials from foreign-educated individuals seeking licensure in the United States. This service allows NCEES to streamline services that they provide to member boards for both U.S and foreign licensure-seeking individuals.
