National Congress Party of Afghanistan
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The National Congress Party of Afghanistan (Persian: حزب کنگره ملی افغانستان - Hezb-e Kongrā-ye Mīllī-ye Afghānestān) is a political party in Afghanistan. The size of the party is not available yet as parliamentary elections were held on a non-partisan basis. The leader of the party is Prof. Dr. Latīf Pedrām, a former member of the Parcham faction of the PDPA, and later opponent of the communist, Islamist and Taliban regimes.
The party is largely based on Persian nationalist ideology - opposed to Pashtun nationalist movements in Afghanistan - and may be regarded as populist.
The Party's leader, Latif Pedram, was a candidate in the Afghanistan's 2004 presidential election and received the fifth most votes.
