National Board Dental Examination

National Board Dental Examination is the United States national Dental Examination.

There are two parts in this examination.

  • Part-1 consists of Basic Science with topics including Human Anatomy/Histology, Biochemistry/Physiology, Microbiology/Pathology and Dental Anatomy and Occlusion. Part I consists of 400 multiple choice questions administered on computers.
  • Part-2 deals with clinical dental topics.

Dental students can facilitate their preparation for the board exam by utilizing the following:
Released Tests from the American Student Dental Association (ASDA)
Dental Deck Flashcards
Crack the NBDE

This examination is required in order to get licensure in United States or sometimes to apply to advanced postgraduate studies in any of the dental specialities after completing a dental degree. Foreign-trained dentists also have to take this test in order to get admission in one of the Advanced Standing programs in any US dental school.

Starting in 2010 the NBDE exams will be graded on a PASS/FAIL basis only.
