National Atomic Museum
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
National Atomic Museum, soon to be renamed the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Museum is a national center of nuclear science information and is dedicated to preserving and presenting information about the history of nuclear technology, its development, commercial usage for electrical power, medical usage, and military usages of its technology during the Cold War.
Once located on the grounds of Kirtland Air Force Base, it was moved after September 11, 2001 to a temporary location in Albuquerque's museum district. Controversy arose when the museum erected its Redstone rocket, nearly 70 feet tall, and visible to the surrounding area.
