National Association for the Prevention of Starvation

The National Association for the Prevention of Starvation, better known as "NAPS" is a U.S. non-profit volunteer organization based at Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama. NAPS is composed primarily of college students. NAPS is known for wearing their trademark blue sweaters or t-shirts and khaki pants, as well as playing patriotic songs with their marching band. Their mottos, prominently displayed on their vans and posters include "Children Helping Children" and "We don't just send relief, we hand deliver it with love and care." The latter is often shortened to simply: "We Care."

The National Association for the Prevention of Starvation (NAPS) is a 501(c)3 non-profit volunteer relief organization founded in 1978 and registered in the state of Alabama in 1993. Its mission is to mitigate hunger, poverty, and disease, and to improve education and food security among suffering people, both nationally and internationally, regardless of race, religion, or nationality. The organization provides humanitarian aid and educational support in the areas of: emergency relief, skilled volunteers, healthcare professionals, agricultural technology, and social and spiritual comfort. The organization operates independently of all governmental, institutional, or political influences.

The organization is an early response team as demonstrated in recent disasters such as: crisis in Sudan, New York on 9/11, the tsunami in Sri Lanka, hurricanes, floods and tornados. The organization brings rapid relief and comfort to those in despair. Children are often the major focus of NAPS relief operations. In addition to social services, NAPS is very active in HIV/AIDS and violence prevention and food security for the most vulnerable. The organization has offices in Guyana, Ethiopia, Jamaica, Madagascar, Sudan and Zambia. NAPS also implements education enhancing programs as well as establishing structures and medical treatment for the most needy communities in some of the world's most remote areas.
