National Action (Maltese: Azzjoni Nazzjonali, AN) is a Maltese political party founded in June 2007. The political party claims that its main focus is to benefit Malta at large and that it does not follow either right or left-wing ideology,[1][2] although the party has been described as far-right by parts of the local media. [3][4]

Three people were involved in the founding: Josie Muscat, a Nationalist Party MP who was later elected National Action's first Leader, entrepreneur Anġlu Xuereb, and University of Malta lecturer and ex-ANR spokesman Philip Beattie.[1]

The party is best known for its position on immigration. It believes that the European Union (of which Malta is a member) should share Malta's burden of illegal immigration and that illegal immigrants to Malta should not be hosted in Malta for more than a month, instead being moved on to other states.[1] The party has also called for a directly-elected President of the Republic with expanded powers and politically unaffiliated[1], a smaller Parliament and a Council of State.

After the disappointing result of the General Elections 2008. Josie Muscat announced his retirement from politics. Despite his retirement, Josie Muscat was persuaded to stay on as Party Leader. His was the only nomination for Party Leader during the Party Assembly. The Party has also setup a Vigilance Board to scrutinize any members who wish to contest the election or form part of the Executive Committee.[5]
