National-Panasonic Cup

The National-Panasonic Cup was the award for the VFL's night football competition from 1987 to 1989. It preceded the Channel 7 Cup (1987) and and was succeeded by the Fosters Cup (1990-1994).

In 1988, during the time of the National-Panasonic Cup, the VFL changed the night competition to a pre-season night competition.

  • Melbourne was the inaugural winner of the National-Panasonic Cup, defeating Essendon in the final.
  • In 1988, Hawthorn defeated Geelong by two points.
  • In 1989, Melbourne was awarded the Cup again, defeating Geelong by seven points.
