Nathaniel Freeman (physician)

Nathaniel Freeman (1741-1827) was an American physician and jurist, born at Dennis (Barnstable County), Mass. He settled at Sandwich (also Barnstable County) in 1763. He studied both medicine and law, served during the Revolution, commanding a militia regiment in the Rhode Island expedition, and from 1781 to 1791 was brigadier general of militia. From 1795 to 1799 he was a member of Congress. He was also in the State Legislature of Massachusetts, and long a judge of probate and of the Court of Common Pleas.
