Nathan Morley

Nathan Morley (born 14 January 1974) is an English television presenter, columnist and journalist based in Finland and Cyprus. He is best known for his live radio broadcasts on Talksport, LBC and the BBC to the United Kingdom. He is also a familiar voice to worldwide audiences for his CBS and Voice of America reports. Nathan Morley is also a vocal supporter of animal rights issues in Cyprus.

[edit] Broadcasting

Nathan Morley was the presenter of the longest running daily radio program in Cyprus on the commercial network Radio Napa between 1995 - 2008, where his easy self deprecating style mixed with news, celebrity and political interviews attracted scores fans for many years.

In 2005 his radio show has accounted for 63% of the audience share in southern Cyprus. He is the only English journalist to have interviewed every Cyprus president (except Makarios III).

In May 2008, he left his daily show to become the anchor of the daily Six O'clock news on radio and the internet.

Many of his interviews, notably with George Papandreou, Tassos Papadopoulos, Glafkos Klerides, George Vassiliou, Terry Waite, Sir David Hannay, Rafik Hariri, Mehmet Ali Talat, Bulent Ecevit, Álvaro de Soto and Rauf Denktaş were picked by major newswires. He took leave from daily radio in 2003 and was based in the Middle East where he collaborated with such notables as the late Tareq Ayyoub who was killed by US gunfire, during the Iraq War of 2003.

Morley is a national television presenter with Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (PIK), where he presents the Evening News, which is also seen worldwide via satellite. In addition to domestic television, he reports for the German TV and radio network Deutsche Welle and DWTV.

He is one of the main presenters on Home and Travel TV on Sky Digital in the United Kingdom, where he hosts several travel related programmes and chat shows.

Nathan Morley is the Cyprus correspondent for the Voice of America, Vatican Radio and ORF Radio Austria (Radioprogramme des Österreichischen Rundfunks).

During the 2003 US invasion of Iraq he was a presenter with the USA Radio Network (reporting from the Iraqi border), co-hosting and reporting for all of the networks news programs. The USA Radio Network coverage won a prestigious Katie Award in 2004. He has also been heard reporting for the network radio division of CBS News. He has reported from Jordan, Turkey, Lebanon and Israel for American radio.

In 2003 he appeared in many British national newspapers after describing Cherie Blair's singing ability as "appalling", which was rumoured to have upset the former Prime Ministers wife.

Nathan Morley has been a regular voice on LBC radio in London since 2001, where he joins Steve Allen on Thursday mornings, he also reports for other LBC programmes. In late 2006 he joined Talksport as a reporter on the night time show with Ian Collins. During the mid-1990s he was a regular voice on Chris Tarrant's Capital FM breakfast news reporting from Cyprus.

He broadcasts a weekly segment on BBC Radio Berkshire called Euro News, from the BBC studios in Cyprus, with Phil Kennedy.

A well known radio prayer session with the psychic Uri Geller failed to help England win the World Cup in 2002. "Listeners are supposed to touch the radio as Uri talks and say 'Win, England win' and channel all that positive energy to Japan", Nathan Morley told Reuters, in 2002. The event was reported by the world's media and Morley later admitted the idea came from 'a night at the boozer'.

Nathan Morley is the son-in law of the former Finland star goal keeper Lars Nasman and grandson of Grimsby Town supporters' club chairman Bernard Morley. He was married to Lars Nasmans daughter Sari in 1998 and spends most weekends in Ledra Nicosia, where he has an apartment in the famous old city.

Nathan Morley was awarded the highly coveted New York Festival's Silver World Medal award for broadcasting in 2001 at a ceremony in Manhattan in New York. He was presented with the gong by legendary broadcaster Cousin Brucie from WABC. He also won the IPAR award in Italy for his presentation of The World This Week in 2005.

  • Nathan Morley writes a syndicated column for the Famagusta Gazette and The Cyprus Observer newspaper.
  • In late 2006 Nathan Morley was commissioned to write a biography of ex-Chelsea and England star Alan Hudson. He was also the author of The Breakfast Show Cook Book (2006) and wrote an introduction to the re-published Cyprus As I Saw it in 1879.
