Nathan Fien is a rugby league player, who currently plays for the New Zealand Warriors and formerly the North Queensland Cowboys. He was educated at Columba Catholic College, Charters Towers.
After playing 91 games for the Cowboys, Nathan signed with the Warriors from season 2005 onwards. He has since extended his contract until the end of 2009.
Born in Australia, he claimed eligibility to play for New Zealand through a New Zealand-born grandmother, and has played in two 2006 Rugby League Tri-Nations matches to date. Since then it has emerged that he has a New Zealand born great grandmother, not grandmother, leading to debate over the legal definition of the term "grandmother". He was later forced out by the International Board, and New Zealand was stripped of its 2 championship points they got from beating Great Britain. [1].
Fien now qualfies for Kiwi selection through residency.
