Green used Richard Anthony Proctor's nomenclature and introduced some of his own; these names were later superseded by the nomenclature of Giovanni Schiaparelli. Thus, for example the "Kaiser Sea" is the modern-day Syrtis Major, and "Secchi Continent" is Tharsis.
