Nassawango Creek
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nassawango Creek is a tributary of the Pocomoke River on the Delmarva Peninsula. It rises in Wicomico County, Maryland and flows through Worcester County, Maryland to join the Pocomoke below Snow Hill.
The entire watershed is in the coastal plain and quickly reaches sea level at the Pocomoke. Nassawango Creek and its tributaries were dammed in several places for mills, and one dam site became an early industrial blast furnace operation where bog iron ore was smelted to make pig iron at Furnacetown in the first half of the 19th century. Large portions of the watershed of Nassawango Creek are within the Pocomoke River State Forest and The Nature Conservancy's Nassawango Creek Preserve.
