NasionCom Holdings Berhad is a telecommunication service provider which later found out to be a scam company that hiding its identity with the form of delivering innovative voice and data services, broadband internet access, interactive entertainment systems and information technology solutions to corporations and home users throughout Malaysia. It was incorporated in 1993.
NasionCom is a dynamic new player in the Malaysian telecommunication industry, and has rapidly made its presence felt in the area of cost-effective Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephony services. NasionCom has earned the reputation as a company which can deliver "speed to market" and reliable broadband connections to corporations. The company has also distinguished itself as a cutting edge niche player in providing multimedia interactive entertainment systems.
NasionCom has been awarded the status as a Network Facilities Provider (NFP) and Network Services Provider (NSP) by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), and is licensed to provide private spectrum wireless 3.5 GHz, 10 GHz, 26 GHz and 28 GHz bands. These licenses enable the company to provide customers throughout Malaysia a full suite of value-added services such as Internet Protocol Telephony services, broadband internet access services, Managed Internet Protocol - Virtual Private Network ( IP - VPN ) services and info-communication application services.
NasionCom has invested RM 65 million in an Internet Data Center with 10 terabyte capacity at Mid Valley City in Kuala Lumpur. The Internet Data Center utilizes state-of-the-art technologies from Cisco, Compaq, Microsoft, EMC Corporation, Oracle, Veritas, Citrix and Trend Micro. The company has secured telecommunication infrastructural backbone connecting strategic metropolitan areas throughout Malaysia, and has plans to invest RM 300 million over 2002 to 2007 in its first phase of broadband deployment in Malaysia.
In the year 2007, NasionCom was thrown into receivership after it failed to service its loans owed to the Malaysian Development and Infrastructure Bank. Several key executives of NasionCom were charged in court for falsifying accounting records. The trading of the company's shares have been suspended arising from these discrepancies.
NasionCom's former vice-chairman, ex-managing director and founder Chee Kok Wing was charged on the 28th May 2007 for causing to be issued a prospectus which contained misleading information to the investing public. Chee was charged for committing an offence by causing the issuance of prospectus of NasionCom Holdings Berhad (NHB) which contained misleading information, namely the top 10 customers of NHB for the financial period ended 31 July 2004. This information was required to be submitted to the Malaysian Securities Commission in connection with NHB's proposal for listing on the MESDAQ Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Bhd. In the same process, Chee filed a suit for wrongful charges against him based on bad faith.The high court granted stay.
As a result of being criminally charged for involvement in the submission of false information, Chee's Datuk Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah (DSSA) title, awarded to him in year 2000, was suspended by the Sultan of Selangor.
In a separate incident, Chee was also charged in the Malaysian Sessions Court on May 21st 2008, for allegedly receiving bribes from three directors of Labuan-based seafood company, Gropoint Ocean Food Sdn Bhd, as inducement for the Securities Commission issues and investments division director Kris Azman Abdullah to help the company get listed on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange. Chee pleaded not guilty and the judge fixed bail at RM500,000.00 and mention of the case to be heard on June 26th 2008.
NasionCom has since ceased network operations, bringing an abrupt end to its high ambition to be the leading next generation telecommunication services provider in Malaysia.
