Nashville Electric Service

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nashville Electric Service is among the twelve largest public electric utilities in the nation, distributing energy to more than 325,000 customers in Middle Tennessee. The NES service area covers 700 square miles, all of Davidson County and portions of the six surrounding counties.

The Electric Power Board of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County (the "Board") was established in 1939 when the City of Nashville purchased certain properties of the Tennessee Electric Power Company. NES is the operating name of the Electric Power Board of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County. The five member Board is appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Council. Members of the Board serve five-year staggered terms without pay. The Board appoints a chief executive officer who has responsibility for day-to-day operations, including hiring of employees.
