Narur

Narur is a large village in Punjab, situated 19 km from Phagwara. The area is 183 hectares with a population of 1144.

[edit] Etymology

Narur is named after Nar Chand, one of the sons of Mian Mota who was a Jaswal prince from the Punjab hills.[1]

Narur was founded by a Jaswal prince hailing from Amb, capitol of Jaswan, which is situated in present day Himachal Pardesh. As the legend goes, he was hunting and fell in love with a girl. He ended up staying in the area and founded the village.

Narur residents are Jaswal Rajputs.

[edit] Notable Personalities

Dhan-2 Shri Baba Yakh Ji was a contemporary of the 5th(Shri Guru Arjun Dev Ji) Sikh Guru. It is said that the villagers approached the Guru and asked him to visit. The Guru responded by saying that there was no need for him to visit Narur because an equally holy man Yakh was already present among them.
