Narol [ˈnarɔl] is a town in Poland, in Podkarpacie Voivodeship, in Lubaczów County. It has 2,111 inhabitants (2004).
[edit] History
The family of Belzhecki owned the area where the town of Narol is situated now. There was a hawk and their coat of arms. But at the end of the XV th century the lands changed their owners: first they came to the family of Marcinkowski (the axe was drawn on their coat of arms) & later to the lashchoows. The town of Narol was first called Floreanow. It was foundaded by florean lashck Nieledewski. At the same time not far from Narol there was built a little caster made of wood. Narol merchants became richer because of their co-operation with Gdansk. But everything was destroyed in 1648 because of Hmelnitski. On his way to Zamosc the army of Hmelnitski attacked the town with all its citizens (rich merchants, jude & so an). And in some days after some battles the town was in the arms of Hmelnitski. 20000 people hod died during those fights & among them Florean lashs - the owner of the town. At that very time the church (which is in the centure of Narol now a days) was ruined too. And only in 1700 ruined too. And only in 1700 it was rebuilt again. In 1672 a great hetman Jan Sobieski had won a battle with the Talars. Later Sobieski became the first Polish king. In 1758 the owner of Narol became Felix Anthony Los` ( with oaks and his coat of arms) (1737 - 1804), a deputy & a general of the king's army. He thought of the development of Narol so he didn't only "open" the factory here but also "opened" an elementary school. It was he, who in 1776 began to build a beautiful castle in 1776 began to build a beautiful castle in the form of a horseshoe (the los's coat of arms). Near the castle there was an Italian garden. Besides he collected different valuable things; he had a good library, old writings, correspondence & manuscripts, painting of Italian & Holandian schools. Besides in his palace there were 2 schools for rich people: dramatic & musical. The palace was so beautiful & well kept that later it was famous as one of the most beautiful palacess in the whoe country. After his death all the collection was lost, but the books were got by Jacob Potocki. In 1935 the books were sent to a Public Library in Warsaw. In the time of January uprising the Palace in Narol was burnt by Austrian army. Julian Puzyna (its later owner) tried to rebuilt the palace one more time. And he was successful in it. But during word war I Narol was burnt & all valuable things were got out by the Russian Army of the palace. The last palace's owner (with the area of 2100 acres) was Jadwiga Korytowska. She owned it till September 1939. She rebuilt the palace, but only it's part. During World War II the palace & all its territory got the country. One part of the herritage get the National fund of Land, another - the company "National Forests", and the rest "The National Farms". PGR was assumed by the company "IGLOOPOL" & one more organization. After the downfall of "IGLOOPOL" the property came to a National Farm Agency. Since 1995 the palace & its territory are a private property again. To help in reconstruction of the very palace a new fund "Pro Academia Narolense" was organized. So the town of Narol belongs to the City Hall of Narol, which is situated in the northern - east of Podcarpatski region. This beautiful region in called Narolschyzna.
