Nariin Sukhait Coal Mine

Nariin Sukhait Coal Mine (Mongolian: Нарийн Сухайтын чулуун нүүрсний уурхай) is in Gurvan tes sum (district) of Ömnögovi Province in South Mongolia. This mine is 25 km SE from sum center and 40 km N of Shivee Khuren - Ceke crossing point on Mongolian-Chinese border.

Nariin Sukhait Mine is owned and operated by the MAK-Qin Hua Mongolian/Chinese Joint Venture [1]

Nariin Sukhait is reported to hold 134 million mt of reserves [2] of high-rank, low-ash, low-sulphur metallurgical and steam coal [3].

Mine has two (East and West) open pits on 28.8 km² mining license. This territory is droplet into larger mining licenses controlled by Ivanhoe Mines, where Ovoot Tolgoi Coal Mine project is realized[4].

In 2006 mine produced about 2 million mt of coal[2] (2003 - 0.4 million mt[5]). Approx. 400 trucks hauling coal each day to Ceke border station at the 450 long Chinese railway [4] to the Jiuquan Iron & Steel Co.’s steel mill in China’s Gansu province[3].
