Naresh Trehan

Dr. Naresh Trehan,(http://www.drnareshtrehan.com) an internationally renowned surgeon and medical administrator, is founder, executive director and chief cardiovascular surgeon for Escorts Heart Institute and Research Center, one of the world's leading heart institutes. Dr. Trehan has served as personal surgeon to the President of India since 1991, has received numerous awards for distinguished service in medicine, and been president of the International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery. Dr. Trehan opened the EscortsHeart Institute and Research Center (EHIRC) in New Delhi, India in 1988. Today it is one of the largest facilities of its kind in the world, with nine state-of the-art operating rooms and 350 beds.

Dr. Trehan is also chairman of Global Health Private Ltd., through which he is building a world-class integrated health care facility in Gurgaon, India, currently referred to as MediCity. MediCity will spread across 43 acres of land and is fashioned after the likes of a Mayo, Cleveland, Harvard and Johns Hopkins in its basics, but intends to go beyond what any conventional medical institute has attempted. Collaborating with General Electric and other financial partners, MediCity aims to add the highest end of modern medicine to traditional forms of medicine and holistic therapies.

After graduating from King George Medical College in India, Dr. Trehan came to the United States with his wife, Madhu, for an internship in Philadelphia. Seeking out a first-rate mentor, he completed a thoracic surgery residency under Dr. Spencer at New York University, who, he says, molded his professional thinking "almost 100 percent. I fashioned the whole surgical program after NYU."

Dr. Naresh Trehan from 1971 to 1988, Dr. Trehan held important academic and clinical positions at the New York University Medical Center, Bellevue Hospital of the City of New York, and Veterans Administration Hospital (Manhattan). His pioneering work in the field of coronary artery bypass surgery was at the New York University Medical Center, where he performed over 3000 coronary artery operations. In 1988, at the height of his career, he returned to India and started Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre - a pioneering state-of-the-art heart institute in India. This institute is among the best in the world in cardiac care having successfully performed over 35,000 open heart surgeries.

Dr. Trehan is a Diplomate American Board of Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery. He was appointed as Personal Surgeon to the President of India in 1991. Besides clinical work he has taken keen interest in training, education and research programs and has presented a number of scientific papers and chaired scientific sessions in national and international conferences in the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, China, Israel throughout Asia.
