Narendra Kumar Kushwaha (born 1 July 1967) is an Indian politician with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). He stood for the 2004 Lok Sabha elections on the BSP ticket and was a Member of Parliament from Mirzapur [1].
In the sting Operation Duryodhana[2] by the Noida based media firm Cobrapost, aired December 12, 2005 on the Indian Hindi news TV Channel Aaj Tak, Narendra Kushwaha was caught on video accepting bribes of Rs. 55,000 for fielding questions in parliament.
During the sting operation, he first moved the meeting with woman reporter Suhasini Raj to his bedroom. He wants her to sit very close to him. At one point, he proposes that he can
- get more MPs on board free of cost, saying lecherously, "Aapke paas deh hai na (You have your body to offer)."[2]
Regarding the scheme where MPs are given Rs. 2 crores a year to spend in their constituency in any manner they deem fit, Kushwaha says that the MPs typically take a commission of 10% for executing projects under this MPLAD scheme. He continues:
- "Kitna khate hain, khata hoga… dus per cent khate hain … bees hi lakh rupya na hua. Usme aapko sansadhan, gadi kitne rakhne hote hain MP ko" (How much do they embezzle? Hardly 10 per cent. That comes to only Rs 20 lakh. So what? After all, an MP has to maintain all the paraphernalia, a retinue of cars, etc that go with his lifestyle)
A Special Committee of the Lok Sabha found him guilty of contempt of the House. On December 23, 2005, following a motion calling for the expulsion of all 11 MPs caught in the sting, he was expelled from Parliament.
