The Nardi FN.333 Riviera is an Italian luxury touring amphibian flying-boat designed by Fratelli Nardi with the production aircraft built for them by Savoia-Marchetti.
[edit] Development
The all-metal amphibian flying boat first flew in September 1952, it was designed as a luxury touring aircraft. The Riviera was a high-wing cantilever monoplane with a cabin mounted on the forward part of a single-step hull. It has twin fins and rudders supported on slender booms extending aft from the wings. A 145hp (108kW) Continental engine is fitted at the rear of the cabin driving a pusher propeller. Three prototypes were built by Nardi, the third was designated the FN.333S and was the basis for series production. Unable to build them itself the company contracted Savoia-Marchetti to build 30 production aircraft. The first production aircraft flew from Lake Maggiore in 1960, it differed from the prototype in having a revised tail unit, a four-seat cabin, and water-proof doors for the retractable tricycle landing gear. Most of the 30 production aircraft were sold in the United States.
