[edit] Political career
When Rep. Tito R. Espinosa was assassinated on February 28, 1995, his wife Vida was chosen to replace him. She won the 1995 election easily and was reelected on 1998 and 2001. Bong (as he is known) was elected to the provincial board in 1995 and was reelected on 1998 and 2001. During the 2004 elections he was chosen to replace Rep. Vida Espinosa because the later cannot run for the same post due to term limits. He won the congressional elections narrowly against then Mayor of Claveria Eduardo Andueza. He was again reelected with a better margin against former Vice-Governor Rainier Butalid in 2007. His wife Marvi (as she is known) lost the mayoral election of the municipality of San Fernando by 31 votes against incumbent mayor Helen Bunan. But revision is on going regarding the result.
