[edit] History

Before they were named the Naranjeros, the team was called the Queliteros, and was a part of the LMP's predecessor, the Sonoran Winter League (Spanish: Liga Invernal de Sonora). The Queliteros won their first title in 1944, and from 1945-1958, they won three more championship titles.

Since the founding of the LMP in the 1957-58 season, the Naranjeros have won 14 further titles, making the team the most successful in the league's 50-year history.

[edit] 1976 Caribbean Series

The Naranjeros' victory at the 1976 Caribbean Series in Santo Domingo was the first by a Mexican team. The team was managed by Benjamin "Cananea" Reyes and included players such as Hector Espino (1B), Sergio "Kaliman" Robles (C), Celerino Sanchez (3B), Elliot Willis (2B), Arnaldo de Hoyos (CF), George Brunett (P) and Jerry Hairston (LF).

[edit] Stadium

In its early days, the team played at Fernando M. Ortiz Stadium, also known as "La Casa del Pueblo." Since 1972, the Naranjeros have been playing in their home stadium, named after the greatest Mexican baseball player in history, Hector Espino Gonzalez, also called the Mexican Babe Ruth, who still owns many records which were imposed playing for his favorite home team, the Naranjeros.
