Image:NARA 44th Indiana.jpg

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Original image found at [1], a National Park Service page connected with the Pea Ridge National Military Park, carries the following caption:

A company of infantry standing in a line of battle. Units such as this were rarely at full-strength, primarily due to illness. The number of men is typical for a unit that has been in service.

Another reproduction of this photo at [2] identifies the company as "Company H."

Both sources credit the image to the National Archives. The file name used here is the same one used for the image on the NPS page. Note that the 44th Indiana was not at Pea Ridge. The NPS page used the image simply to illustrate a typical company of infantry.
