Naporitan

Naporitan or Napolitan is the name of a pasta dish, which is popular in Japan. The dish consists of spaghetti noodle, tomato Ketchup or tomato-based sauce, onion, button mushroom, green peppers, sausage, bacon and Tabasco sauce. Contrary to popular belief, Naporitan is not originated in Italy, but instead in Yokohama, Japan. Today an instant Naporitan is also available in Japan.

It is speculated that the dish was created by the general chef of the New Grand Hotel in Yokohama, when he was inspired by one of the military ration of GHQ, which was a spaghetti mixed with tomato ketchup.
He gave thought to name the dish something in Western style. So he quoted Napoli, the city in Italy.

Naporitan is spelled in Japanese Romaji. The dish is often spelled as Napolitan as well.
