Napalm Beach was an American punk rock band from Portland, Oregon. One of the longest-running punk bands from Portland, they are credited as being the godfathers of grunge long before Nirvana.[citation needed] At the core of the group was Chris Newman on guitar, and Sam Henry on drums, and an ever-rotating cast of bass players over their 24 year run together. Chris had several side projects, including Snow Bud and the Flower People, and the Divining Rods.
Kurt Cobain is said to have been greatly influenced by them and another legendary Portland band, the Wipers; Napalm Beach's music is featured on the documentary Kurt & Courtney. In fact, Nirvana opened for Napalm Beach at least once in Seattle. Sam Henry was the original drummer for the Wipers before joining Napalm Beach in 1981.
