The Napa River flood of 1986 was the worst flood ever recorded in Napa, California. 5,000 people were evacuated, 250 homes were destroyed, and 3 people died. Since the flood, the Napa County Flood Control and Water Conservation District has been working on controlling the floods, however, it has been proved that the Napa River Flood Project is not done, since the worst flood after 1986 occurred on New Years Eve, 2005, after over a week of rain, and caused major damage, but not as much as the flood in 1986. Other floods in between 1986 and 2005 include a flood in 1995 and 1997. The Napa River came very close to flooding in December 2002.
