Talk: Namoa (Siosaia Tupou). Siosaia means : Look and confirm. It was a Tongan name but when the pioneer missionaries arrived in Tonga and heard of the name been used on Tubou/ Namoa, they either mistaken the name as, "Josiah" in the bible or chose to use, Josiah, which may have same sound. The initial Tongan name, Siosaia, emerged from the incident/ event mentioned below. The event / incident: In 1812 Namoa received a message from his nephew, His Royal Highness Tupouto'a. The message brought by the messenger and it stated, " Namoa, do come I need to see you". Namoa received the message, and immediately set sailed to Ha'apai.Namoa knew the message was utmost urgent. He arrived and found that HRH Tupouto'a, was gravely ill. HRH Tupouto'a only son, Taufa'ahau was presented for the first time to Namoa (Taufa'ahau's great uncle). That historic moment and that specific incident, Namoa instantly confirmed as he looked at the child( Taufa'ahau), that Tuku'aho has returned. The child ( Taufa'ahau) was very much the living image of Tuku'aho (oldest brother of Namoa and grandfather of, Taufa'ahau).Namoa a.k.a. Tupou confirmed that, the spirit/ soul of Tuku'aho has indeed alive, and returned. Taufa'ahau was 6 years old on that time. HRH Tupouto'a ( Taufa'ahau' father) died few days after Namoa, arrival in 1812. From that special event/ incident mentioned above, the name, Siosaia emerged. Namoa a.k.a. Tupou, then known as, Siosaia Tupou. However, Namoa was still referred to by, the missionaries as, Tubou, until 1830. In 1830, Namoa became King and known as, Josiah Tubou to early missionaries. Though the name Siosaia Tupou already been used by Namoa(Tupou), before becoming Tu'i Kanokupolu in 1830.
