Coordinates: 24°18′00″N 87°49′00″E / 24.3, 87.8167 Nalhati is a town in Birbhum District in the Indian state of West Bengal near the West Bengal / Jharkhand border. This town is named after the Shakti peetha Nalhateshwari temple which according to the mythologies is the situated where the "nala" ie throat of goddess shakti had fallen.

Nahlati is a junction railway station where the Ajimguj line joins the old Howrah - Sahebgunj loop of eastern railway.

As of 2001 India census[1], Nahlati block I and II had a populations of 36229 and 20020 (together 56249).

In the 2006 assembly elections, Dipak Chatterjee of AIFB won the Nalhati assembly seat defeating his nearest rival Abdul Walee Mollah of INC. In 2001 and 1996 Kalimuddin Shams of FBL defeated Sharif Hossain (Dalim Master) of INC. Sattick Kumar Roy of FBL defeated Madan Mohan Mandal of BJP in 1991, Brindaban Saha of INC in 1987 and Sachidanandan Sau of INC in 1982. Bhabani Prasad Chattopadhyay of FBL defeated Abhoy Charan Das of INC in 1977. [2]

Nalhati is part of Birbhum (Lok Sabha constituency).[3]
