Coordinates: 29°38′N 78°20′E / 29.63, 78.33 Najibabad (नजीबाबाद) is a city and a municipal board in Bijnor district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is a railway junction and one of the administrative blocks of the Bijnor district.

Najibabad also has an All India Radio center. The town is an important trade center for timber, sugar and grain. There are manufacturing units which deal with metal, shoes, blankets and cotton.

Najibabad is located at 29.63° N 78.33° E[1]. It has an average elevation of 245 metres (803 feet).

The current Member of Legislative Assembly from Najibabad is Sheesh Ram. [1]

The Najibabad town was found by Najib-ud-Daula, a Rohilla chief in the mid-18th century, and by 1901, it had a population of 19,568. Even today, several architectural remains of Rohilla magnificence can be found within the city [2].

Najibabad has five sites, protected by the Archaeological Survey of India [3]:

  • Portion of the old Palace
  • Tomb of Nawab Najib-ud-Daula
  • Mordhaj also known as Munawar Jar with lofty mound

A fort built by Najib-ud-Daula (aka Gulam Kadir), during 18th century is also situated in Najibabad. During the British period, this fort was used by noted dacoit, Sultana Daku as a shelter [4].

As of 2001 India census[5], Najibabad had a population of 79,087. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Najibabad has an average literacy rate of 54%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 58%, and female literacy is 49%. In Najibabad, 16% of the population is under 6 years of age.
