Najah Al-Attar (Arabic: 'نجاح العطار'; born 1933) is a current Vice President of Syria (since 2006).

[edit] Personal background
Najah Al-Attar was born in 1933 and raised in Damascus. Her father was among nationalist leaders who took part in the 1925-1927 Syrian revolt against French Mandate in Syria.

She studied at Damascus University, graduating in 1954, and obtained graduate and postgraduate degrees in Arabic literature from the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom. She is an accomplished translator.

She is a prominent member of the Baath Party, which is led by President of Syria Bashar Assad.
