Nainpur is a town and a municipality in Mandla district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.

Nainpur is located at 22.43° N 80.12° E[1]. It has an average elevation of 447 metres (1466 feet). As you can see on the map,it is located at the absolute center of the country. It is surrounded by two rivers Chakor & Thanwar. It also has a lake called Railway Taalab.

As of 2001 India census[2], Nainpur had a population of 21,769. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Nainpur has an average literacy rate of 75%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 81%, and female literacy is 68%. In Nainpur, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age. There are lots of schools in Nainpur major ones being Saraswati Shishu Mandir, Gyan Jyoti School, Railway School & others. There are a few degree colleges also. It has a weekly local newspaper called the Nainpur Times.

Nainpur is a Tehsil. It is administered by Nainpur Nagar Palika. The town is divided in 15 wards. Each ward is represented by a ward member.

The city has the typical hot and dry temperate of the Great Indian Plateau. Nainpur is hot during summers with temperatures up to 44 degree Celsius but the winters are quite comfortable. The July to September months bring heavy rains with the onset of the South Western monsoon. The October to March window during the winters is suitable for a visit to the city.

Nainpur is a railway hub on the narrow gauge (2 ft 6 in (762 mm)) line between Jabalpur to the north and Gondia / Balaghat to the south. It is Asia's largest narrow gauge railway station. This line is scheduled for conversion to broad gauge as part of the Unigauge Project. Narrow gauge branch lines to Mandla in the east and Chhindwara in the west meet the Metre gauge Jabalpur - Gondia line at Nainpur which is also subject to conversion under Unigauge. [3]

The nearest airport is Jabalpur and Nagpur.

It is also connected by Mandla and Seoni by the roads, in between Mandla and Nainpur a small village "ChiraiDongri" is there from where the route to "Kanha Kislee" a Well Known National Park is diverted. You can find few beautiful picnic spots around like 'Maaldhar', 'Siddhaghat', 'Ghoghra' etc. It is famous for its two KHERMAI (choti and badi).

Airtel, Idea, Reliance and BSNL are the cellular service providers in Nainpur. Another prominent place to visit while statying in nainpur is the forest of Padriganj.It is a great place for bird-watching ,study of insects and other forms of wildlife.It has a huge river channel flowing through these forests .
