From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Naihe-Kukui Kapihe better known as Captain Jack [? - 1831] was father of Kalama Hakaleleponi Kapakuhaili, consort of Kamehameha III, and was a minor Kona chief serving under Kamehameha I.
He was royal harbor pilot at Honolulu and was the commander of native fleet of Hawaii. He was known as Captain Jack by the foreigners living in Hawaii. He fathered Kalama by his wife, I-Kape'ekukai Moana-wahine, daughter of Nohomuaolani Palila. But in other tradition it said I'ahu'ula, the sister of Charles Kana'ina was mother of Kalama.[1]
He became Governor of Oahu in 1831 after Kuini Liliha was stripped of all her power by the imperious Kaahumanu, the Queen regent of Hawaii. He served as governor for less than a year before he died on December 29, 1831 and was succeed by John Adams Kuakini the queen's brother.
