Nahida Al Rammah

Nahida Al Rammah is a famous Iraqi actress. She was one of the founders of the Modern Iraqi Theatre. Nahida is now 60 years old. She has starred in a film production Wasteland between London and Baghdad by fellow Iraqi director Koutaiba Al Janabi. Rammah, who lost her sight last decade, was one of the most famous actresses in Iraq in the 1950s and 60s. The actress, who first performed in 1956, was sent by the then Iraqi president, Ahmad Hasan al-Bakir was sent abroad to be treated. She defected after receiving treatment and became an opponent of the Baathist government. She was later targeted by Saddam's Baath Party regime for being a communist activist, forcing her to flee Iraq in the 1970s. She eventually settled in London.
